About Me

I received my B.A. in English from Biola University, followed by a teaching credential from California State University Fullerton and a Texas Educator Certificate.  I taught Language Arts in California and Texas public schools for six years, and have been tutoring both Language Arts and history both privately and at ACA Tutoring for the last six years. I love sharing my love of books with high school and middle school students; other passions include music, the Chicago Cubs, and baking. 

Among my students, I try to foster a community of thoughtful and virtuous learners who grow in their skills in preparation for high school while thinking carefully and disagreeing kindly. 

About My Class:

Next year I am offering a humanities class for 8th graders in Modern History (2023-2024). This class will expose your student to different viewpoints through reading and examining primary, secondary, and historian sources as well as fiction, biographies, and relevant classic literature. Students will engage in active learning through hands-on activities and map work. Rather than passively learning, your student will discover history like a historian. Students will sharpen their critical thinking skills through inquiry, analysis, logical reasoning, evaluation of historical events, and written and verbal communication. Students will understand the effect of geographical location on the story of humankind by making connections between geography and world events.
